Procedure Instructions
Prior To Your Procedure
  1. Specific individual instructions will be given to you before you come to the Center.
  2. You should not eat or drink anything after midnight on the night prior to your procedure unless you are instructed otherwise.
  3. All patients are asked to sign a consent form before their procedure to authorize the doctor to perform it.  Patients under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian sign the consent.
  4. Leave all jewelry and valuables at home.
  5. Please arrange to have a responsible person accompany you home after your endoscopy procedure.  The medications you will receive have sedative effects that slow your reflexes, so it is unsafe to drive or travel alone for 24 hours.
  6. Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to take off and put on.
  7. Please complete all forms that are given to you by the doctor's office and bring them with you on the day of the procedure.
When You Arrive
  1. Please notify the receptionist of your arrival. Your insurance card/Medicare card will be copied and returned to you.
  2. A nurse will talk with you and record your vital signs, allergies, and other patient information.
  3. An I.V. will be started so that we may give you intravenous medication.  This medication will help you relax and make you feel more comfortable.
  4. If you are having an upper endoscopy you will have to remove any dentures or partial plates just prior to the procedure.
  5. Your family/driver may wait in our waiting room or return later to pick you up after your procedure and recovery period.
  6. Parking is available in the building.
After Your Procedure
  1. You will rest for a short time in our recovery Room until the effects of the medication wear off.
  2. The doctor will tell you what he found and give you verbal and written instructions.
